ARA-290 (cibinetide) is an 11-amino acid peptide derived from the helical region of erythropoietin (EPO), engineered to selectively activate the innate repair receptor (IRR) — a heterodimer of the EPO receptor and CD131 — without stimulating erythropoiesis. This receptor selectivity makes it a subject of research interest for inflammatory signaling modulation, peripheral nerve pathway repair research, and tissue protection investigations, separate from the blood-cell-production effects of native EPO.

Innate Repair Receptor (IRR) Signaling Research investigates ARA-290's selective agonism at the EPO receptor / CD131 heterodimer, exploring downstream anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective signaling cascades distinct from the erythropoietic signaling pathway of native EPO.
Peripheral Neuropathy Pathway Research Clinical and preclinical studies examine its effects on small nerve fiber density and peripheral nerve signaling, including research on corneal confocal microscopy as a biomarker for nerve repair pathway research in diabetic neuropathy models.
Inflammatory Signaling Modulation Studies investigate ARA-290's effects on cytokine signaling networks, including its role in reducing pro-inflammatory mediators such as TNF-alpha and IL-6, and its interaction with macrophage polarization pathway research.
Metabolic & Insulin Signaling Research Research explores its potential effects on pancreatic beta-cell survival signaling, insulin sensitivity pathway research, and glycemic regulation in the context of type 2 diabetes-related investigations.
Tissue Protection & Repair Signaling Studies examine ARA-290's cytoprotective signaling effects in various tissue types, exploring its interaction with anti-apoptotic pathways, cell survival signaling, and repair response research under conditions of hypoxic or ischemic stress.

Investigational compound. Clinical trials have been conducted in sarcoidosis-related small fiber neuropathy and type 2 diabetes. Not FDA-approved. Not medical advice.
